Marcel Breuer's comprehensive, 100-year building plan for Saint John's, 1954.The Saint John's Abbey and University Archives' possess a collection of architectural building plans, blueprints, specifications, sketches and models of many of the campus buildings (1912-2000) and other parochial missions served by Saint John's Abbey. Most notable are the blueprint plans and accompanying correspondence of architect Marcel Breuer (1902-1981). Ten buildings were designed by Breuer: Monastery (1955); Saint Thomas Aquinus Hall (1959); Abbey and University Church (1961); Alcuin Library (1966); Science Center (1967); Saint Bernard, Saint Boniface, Saint Patrick Halls (1967); Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research (1968); Hill Museum & Manuscript Library - Bush Center (1976). Other architects included in the collection are Traynor, Hermanson and Hahn (The Liturgical Press, Warner Palaestra); Hansen and Michelson (Saint John's Preparatory School), Hugh Newell Jacobson (Art Center); Rafferty, Rafferty, Tollefson (Sexton Commons). Along with the correspondence series, there are accompanying photographs of the progress of building construction (including a detailed collection of the Abbey and University Church). Ten buildings on campus are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
